In May 2021 Community Radio Harare embarked on a program to enhance women’s participation in local governance and developmental issues. The objective of the project is to capacitate women to be front liners in development and take up leadership roles in their communities.

CORAH targeted areas in Harare which namely Hopely, Ruwa, Caledonia ,Harare South and Epworth. The participants welcomed the project when it first started and have gone on to implement the ideas they got from confidence building trainings facilitated by CORAH.

As young women we are grateful to CORAH for awarding us such an opportunity to learn the importance of participating in development and local governance issues. We didn’t know that we had the right to approach our local leaders so that they can be accountable” said Christine Muparadzi from Hopely.

“We never knew that social media can be used in community development, the trainings were very informative and useful, we will continue to utilise the skills we attained” said Cecilia Chivasa from Caledonia.

The women have so far formed Action Women Committee groups in every ward and are mandated to take up issues raised by women to responsible authorities and until action is taken.
