Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has urged local councils to engage residents in the development of their communities.

Speaking at the recently held State of the Ward Address (SOWA), spearheaded by councillor Adonia Shoko of ward 44 Kuwadzana Extension, Mayor Mafume applauded the councillor for engaging the community in the development of the ward.

With the theme “development through community initiatives”, Mafume highlighted the areas in need of development such as roads, maternity wards in clinics and general service delivery.

In an interview with ward 44 councilor, Adonia Shoko told Community Radio Harare that a total of nearly $3 450 USD, 89 bags of cement and 10 100 bricks were raised by community to enhance residents’ lives through a vending market place set to be completed in three months time.

In addition councillor Adonia Shoko noted the need to develop other key areas though the vendor’s market was a matter of urgency as many of the residents earn their living through vending.

Amongst the people who were at the event are Kuwadzana Extension residents, local councillors, church leaders, business persons and representatives of other political parties.
