Juru Women Ready to Take the Lead.

In 2021 Community Radio Harare embarked on a project to promote women’s participation in local governance and development issues. This came as a result of women continuing to be under-represented in decision-making in local governance, and developmental issues.

The project aims at teaching women their potential and that they have the power to be agents of change through taking up leadership roles be it in their political parties, churches, or communities.

The project has already yielded its results after a member of the Juru Women Action was voted to a provincial position in the recently held ZANU PF provincial elections.

“After CORAH taught us the importance of supporting fellow women in taking up leadership roles we took it upon ourselves to campaign and support women in these provincial elections. We are happy that a number of women managed to win the elections and this has shown us that 2023 women can do it” said Plaxedes Kaseke Juru Women Action Group Chairperson.

CORAH managed to speak to one of the women who contested in the provincial elections who thanked women for the overwhelming support.

“Firstly l would like to thank CORAH for teaching us that there is a need to balance the power equation in leadership and elevating women in decision-making benefits politics, businesses, and communities. That gave the confidence and the spirit to fight and win the elections. Also, I’m forever grateful to Juru women who supported me through thick and thin till victory was achieved” said Irene Timure provincial member women’s League Goromonzi secretary for business liaison.

The women have vowed to continue supporting each other in the upcoming March 26, 2022 by-elections and most importantly the 2023 harmonised elections.
